Around six years ago I acquired a gelding donkey with terribly neglected feet. I only intended to keep until his feet improved and then rehome him, however he turned out to be so versatile in harness and as a Nativity and Palm Sunday donkey that he stayed.
Early last year he developed an abscess in his near hind foot, I treated it with Epsom salts and poultices but couldn't find the source. After two weeks I was beginning to doubt it was an abscess but it eventually exited at the coronet, I might add that the vet couldn't find it either. Walking badly on this foot caused an abscess in the other hind foot. Eventually all four feet had abscesses or laminitis. He was now spending 75% of the time lying down and 25% standing, the abscesses took at least two weeks to clear. With conventional poulticing, two months had now passed and we discussed euthanasia, then a friend suggested TuffRock Non-Medicated Poultice. So TuffRock was the last resort and when I read the flyer accompanying the tub it said abscesses drawn in 3-4 days, I was sceptical to say the least!
Well, in three days Billy was walking better, the seepage of the abscess cleared up and only small wet patches on the side of the hoof remained, which I think was the remnants of the laminitis, I just plastered the sides of the hoof with TuffRock until the seepage stopped.
